Internet-based Training - Option 1 Mentoring
Dear Shoshana,
I can easily say that I have learned more from this Internet course than I ever learned in any workshop I have attended. This course really made you use your brain, instead of just sitting there listening to someone talk and reading handouts. I think the interactive method of looking up information, and then formulating answers to your questions, and then seeing your response was a very effective method for me to learn. I am also very thankful for all of the useful information on obtaining products and all of the resource material you put together. I can't even imagine attempting to start a consulting business without all of this information. Another thing that I appreciated about you was your promptness and your willingness to spend time with me in the beginning when I needed a little special guidance to get going! Thanks for the encouragement.
Sincerely, Jamie Temple

Internet-based Training - Option 1 Mentoring
Dear Shoshana,
Since Feb. 2000, you have mentored me. I continue to benefit from your vast experience in OT and home modifications, as you comfortably critique the reports from my private practice and answer product inquiries. I always feel that your comments are well thought out and insightful. How enormously reassuring to me to know that you are there to guide, challenge, and support my efforts to deliver a "best practice" service. Even though I have practiced OT since 1964, I am a relative newcomer to the home adaptations scene (5 years) and, therefore, feel that it is still critical to be mentored properly. You do that so well.
Prior to participating in your program, I attended various seminars, conferences, classes and even a certificate program in environmental access. Working with you has the added advantage of your ability and willingness to streamline the content to whatever I choose. It has been a very personal, totally enjoyable, educational experience. You are a most professional and innovative role model!
You are to be commended for your "cutting-edge" approach to teaching and your patience in helping others to participate meaningfully. Because of your course, I am not geographically limited to the very few resources in my neighborhood. I am, instead, able to benefit from your input and that of others enrolled in your course, no matter where in cyberspace the messages originate.
With appreciation,

Internet Based Training - Option 1 Mentoring
In 2000, I attended a continuing education seminar on ergonomics and modifications for accessibility. As a result, I developed a keen interest in this specialty area and began to research a new career direction .... My own dilemma was finding training while holding a demanding full time occupational therapy position, as well as, a full personal life. My search for CE that would fit into my schedule led me to Shoshana Shamberg, OTR and Abilities OT Services and Seminars, Inc. With Shoshana’s internet-based course in Accessibility and Home Modifications, I have been able to continue my education while working full time and being at home and avoiding travel cost and time. I was very pleased when I received not a packet of information, but a large box of resources that would be helpful not only for the course, but also as part of a resource library. The course manual has not only been a learning tool, but a reference manual.
The AOTSS Accessibility Consultants Network adds the tremendous benefit of mentors carefully chosen by Shoshana to guide us as a group of emerging consultants at many levels of experience. The opportunity to maintain membership and participation in the AOTSS ACN Network, along with other participants at different levels of expertise, has allotted more time for completion of the coursework and with an ongoing support system. My husband has taken an interest in my work within the program and has expanded his own business to include home automation. As a result, we are building a model home to demonstrate the concepts of universal design, adaptability and barrier-free living with smart home features.
Shoshana’s support and professional advice, along with her personal interest in this project, has been invaluable to us, as we are nearing completion. She has allowed the home to be deemed my final project, and has even asked that I share the experience in the form of a chat for the AOTSS Accessibility Consultants Network. When I questioned my ability to continue, she not only gave me sound educational reasons to move forward, but gently encouraged me on a personal level, by giving me positive feedback about assignments and work already submitted.
Although she has been conducting seminars for thirteen plus years, she has allowed her teaching venue and style to evolve with the times by conducting internet-based study and constantly updating and upgrading her materials, the www.AOTSS.COM website, and associated benefits.
I would, AND HAVE, highly recommended this program. I consider it an honor to study under Shoshana in light of her work history and professional merits. I consider it an even greater honor to know her as a person of integrity and faith.
Sincerely, Angie Kidd, COTA, Accessibility Consultant

2-Day Accessibility Seminar in Houston, TX, March 2007:
The "stuff" you brought to "show and tell," got me back in touch with thinking "out of the box", being creative and practical in applying adaptive techniques, principles of modification, etc. The course gave me the validation I needed to become totally convinced, committed and optimistic about immersing myself and dedicating my remaining career years into this opportunity of "accessibility consulting." I needed this validation because the concepts and ideas came so easy, I thought I must have been missing something. As an experienced OT, the basic principles of accessibility consulting are not rocket science but infact the basis of the applied science of which OT is founded. The funding information and resources were also helpful and you demonstrated the importance that we know where to find the information and resources to assist our clientele. Your passion is contagious , expertise and experiences....inspirational! Kate Akers, OT from the Houston, TX area |
2-Day Accessibility Seminar, Hartford, CT, June 2007
I attended your AOTSS class held in the Hartford, CT. area back in June of 2007. It was by far one of the best seminars I have ever attended. I frequently talk about the ideas and resources you shared with us to the clients I work with, as well as my co-workers. Accessibility has always been an interest of mine and your seminar provided me with the resources to take this interest further. Knowing that you were also a phone call or email away for further mentoring helped to set aside any doubts I had. The knowledge and resources you shared in your seminar has opened new doors for me, and has gotten me excited about what I can offer to others to help them safely live in their home environment. Thank you for everything.

2-Day Accessibility Consultation Seminar, Baltimore, MD, July 2008
I really enjoyed the 2 day seminar. Being presented at The Future Home, really brought the material off the page, into reality. Being an accessibility consultant seems to provide therapists with another way to make concrete differences in their clients lives. It is a needed service and I am looking forward to helping many people with the knowledge I gain as a participant of BOTH the 2-Day training and the internet training. Stephen L. Edmonds, MPT, CSFA

2-Day Accessibility Consultation Seminar, Slidell Memorial Hospital near New Orleans,February 2008
Thank you so much for coming all the way down to Louisiana--I loved your stories--stories about how our clients and patients react with equipment and our OT ideas are always helpful--actually they are more helpful than all of the technical information many times. I have had the pleasure of "overseeing" (along with the contractor--I'm sure he was grateful for my "help") the building of my own home--. Thanks so much again for the efforts of bringing your "low-tech" school inventions and the many accessibility and design resource books to show us. Dian Wise

2-Day Accessibility Consultation Seminar, Site Host: Slidell Memorial Hospital near New Orleans, LA, February 2008
I truly enjoyed and learned many things at your seminar. I read most of the AOTSS Green Seminar Manual on the night of Day 1 of the seminar and found it to be very organized and chock full of great information. Given the baby boomers are aging; I see this specialty practice area as an opportunity down the road for me. I have a good friend who is a building contractor and is very interested in universally designed homes. It makes perfect sense given the growing elderly population. I have a very extensive background in ergonomics and job site evaluation. The things I know from industry are a great segway into home access evaluations. Thanks again and don’t change your teaching style! I enjoyed the learning. I do hope to take your online course and will keep in touch. Don Perkins, OTR, Department Head of

Thanks for all the useful information! Your presentation was so inspiring. The Future Home tour was fantastic! Excellent course! Shoshana's enthusiasm and appreciation of this area is wonderful! 2-Day Accessibility Consultation Seminar, Baltimore, MD, August 2008
It was a great learning experience and I am excited to take my learning back to the community I serve. For me, the key will be not to get overwhelmed with too many ideas at once and just start by chipping away at little projects that will improve the current services we provide on the rehab unit and then carry that over to the community at large. Thank you again, and look forward to ongoing learning through mentor/internet course.

2-Day Sensory Motor Activities on a Shoestring Budget Seminar 2007
Your school based pediatric courses have provided excellent possibilities that I could not imagine before. Low-cost solutions and resources were extremely helpful to implement technology integration for our students with severe cognitive and physical disabilities. The pre-vocational training programs are excellent tools for inclusion of students with disabilities into society with adequate support systems. Thanks so much for your creativity and positive attitude that there are solutions to every barrier. I also appreciate your advocacy training for our parents and professionals, so that they can develop their skills, in helping children to maximize their independence both in the educational environment and in the community.

3-Day Brain Gym 101 and the Sensory Motor Activities on a Shoestring Budget Seminars 2006 and 2007
The Brain Gym 101 and Sensory Motor Activities on a Shoestring Budget Seminars revitalized my professional career, as well as my personal development. As an OT for over 25 years, I thought that there was not much more I could learn. I was mistaken as my enthusiasm for your programs testifies. Your trainings are fun and creative, and stimulate each participant to actively develop greater levels of expertise with a team building approach. I loved the group projects and presentations, and the hands-on approach with a low-cost perspective.

3-Day Brain Gym 101 Certification Training, Baltimore, MD August 17-19, 2008
Thank you for an amazing experience during the past 3 days. I learned a lot. It was a pleasure to meet you and learn from your experiences using BG. It was thanks to your openness, that I was able to participate fully, the entire 3 days. I feel so empowered! From the second day of BG 101, I did PACE with my husband every morning. The night after the seminar ended, he asked: "would you be my trainer for these exercises?" It must be making a difference b/c he is such a skeptic! I'm so excited to start the new school year using BG! E.S. Occupational Therapist
Great storyteller and dynamic speaker. Personal growth was an unexpected great benefit. Thank You!! B.B. Occupational Therapist
Thanks so much for leading the inspiring brain gym workshop Your energy
is wonderful! The day after I got home I got to demonstrate PACE to a training of special educators and they were quite receptive! R.B. Occupational Therapist
THANKS SO MUCH for inviting me to assist with the BG course. I understood the material much better where previous to this training, I had some voids of understanding. I can now use the modality in a more effective way. Also, I was very impressed with your knowledge and experience and how you related to the participants in such a real way on a feeling level. S.A.
